RYLA April 2013

Introduced and Thanked by Hazel P

Melanie will be starting her 4th year at the University of Waterloo and is working this summer as a Site Manager for Oxford County. She is the daughter of Deb and Dave Harris.

Melanie attend RYLA in April of 2013.

The RYLA program in District 7080 is for post-secondary students to learn more about their personal and leadership skills. It focuses on what talents and abilities are needed in an effective leader - and gives everyone a chance to practise these skills in a supportive retreat environment.  (http://ryla7080.ca/)

RYLA, for our district, was held in April 2013 at the Ecology Retreat Centre in Orangeville ON with 30 participants. The participants stayed together in one lodge that helped form strong bonds amongst the group.

The day started at 7 AM with a fitness program and lasted until 11 PM with speakers, workshops and committee work.

Workshops involved areas of Empowerment, Leadership, Performance, Self-discussion and Restoration and Growth.

“Being a leader is having the courage to tell your story.” Participants that will gain the most from the RYLA experience are those that are open to learning more about themselves and relationship with others. Life-long friendships is one of the greatest rewards of a RYLA experience.

A video of the RYLA event is available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP88z9ZxdLo&feature=youtu.be

NEXT MEETING: Monday, July 27th at THE BOATHOUSE in Roth Park. Please bring a lawn chair if you have one available.
