Mary - Taste of Art event was held last weekend and was a great success

  • Olga – won 50/50
  • Christy – Father In-law visited this summer and brought greetings from the Northampton West (U.K.) Rotary Club. Gave us his club banner.  He decided not to attend the meeting as it was the day we went to the waste treatment facility.
  • Ron –Daughter Savanah has graduated from a dyslexia program. She has made great progress with this program and will continue to work hard through additional programming!
  • Graham – running for re-election for the Thames Valley District School Board – Good Luck Graham!
  • Chris Cunningham – South Gate Centre was approved for $10,000 from City Council to work on a centre expansion
 
Announcements:
  • Frances – Polio Plus BBQ will be held on Saturday, October 20
    • Honey will also be available at the BBQ, and at club meetings leading up to the BBQ
  • Ron – Rotary Roses tickets are now printed
    • Christy will prepare the tickets and have them ready at the next meeting to hand out to everyone
    • Packaging will be done on Friday,  November 2 and delivery date is Saturday, November 3
  • Chris Cunningham – World Polio Day
    • South Gate Centre will be showing the film Breathe for World Polio Day at 6:30 pm

Ron introduced Kelly Gilson from the United Way to present the guests who were present for the Wes McGill Award Presentation

Kelly then introduced Barbara Graham to present the award.
  • The Wes McGill Award is in memory of Barbara’s father
  • Honours individuals/groups that have gone the extra mile in their dedication and work for the United Way
  • This year’s recipient is Cheryl Micacchi
  • Cheryl helped the United Way in many ways.  Just a few include
    • 6 years as chair of the community investment committee
    • Was trained on, and trained others in the Harwood Method
    • Lead a volunteer group of 20+ Community Impact Volunteers
    • 2013-present – facilitated talks with community members to see what their specific needs are and what the barriers are for them in achieving
    • Member of the feeder school committee
    • Creation of the Community Impact Council
    • Youth Places and Safe Spaces talks with students
    • Term expired in June 2018 – Cheryl now is a part-time United Way staff member.  She is working to continue to support she began and to help create the position for a new staff member in the future
    • She has given 3000+ to our community

  • Thanked Barbara for the introduction and the Award
  • She is proud of the impact of the work that United Way has done over the years.  She is really pleased to see the results of the projects that she has been a part of in our community
 
Kelly Gilson
  • United Way is launching a new round of funding applications for funding starting in April
  • Statements of Interest can be submitted by any group in the Human Social Services sector
  • Kelly also brought copies of the 2017-2018 reports
  • Vollmershausen Leadership Challenge Grant
    • Dennis, Joan & Hunter are matching new donations of $1,200 or more
  • Theme for United Way this year is “Show your local love”
