Senator Trevor Eyton was introduced by Graham Hart.  He became a senator 19 years ago.  Previously he had been the CEO of Brascan, a large Canadian company with multiple holdings.

He said that Canadian senators were hard working and had a large amount of expertise.  The senate provides a sober second thought.  Most of the work is in committees and legislation is often modified.  Soon there will be about an equal balance of Conservative and Liberal senators.   Senator Eyton said that the senate could do some of the work of royal commissions and boards of enquiry.  The work would be done better and at considerably less expense.   He suggested a part appointed and part elected senate, perhaps with an eight year term.

Senator Eyton was thanked and given a certificate stating, on his behalf, we would immunize 50 children as part of the Rotary Polio Plus programme to wipe out polio.
